Description
Summary:The shipping industry is often the target of maritime security threats like piracy and terrorism, thereby causing a need for the implementation of various maritime security initiatives. Some of the maritime security initiatives in place are the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, the Container Security Initiative (CSI) and the 24 Hour Manifest Rule. The implementation of these initiatives might have caused impacts on the maritime industry such as increased workload for seafarers and longer port time, which have not been widely discussed. This report hence aims to identify the impacts on the business performance of shipping companies and ports in Singapore due to the implementation of maritime security initiatives.
