Bearing in mind the idea of boundaries as a pathway for the introduction and interaction of various cultures, values and ideas, I approach Orhan Pamuk as an author whose works are conscious of the complexities arising from such crossing of boundaries. This is especially apparent in My Name Is Red, a novel that explores the difficulties in negotiating between differences in artistic influences, history and culture in sixteenth-century Ottoman Istanbul.
