Concrete-filled steel columns in high rise buildings have become popular in recent years as they provide several advantages over reinforced concrete and steel columns. This is mainly due to the fact that they can offer advantages over either pure steel or concrete members in terms of high strength, high ductility and high stiffness. As a key segment of our economy, the construction industry plays an important role in providing the infrastructure and buildings to support our economic development. Increasingly, the industry will have to play a greater role in shaping a sustainable environment for Singapore, now and the future. One of the aspects of sustainable construction which the Building and Construction Authorities (BCA) is trying to implement is applying the recycle material in concrete production and civil engineering works. The use of green concrete is one of the important steps towards sustainability development.
Concrete-filled steel columns in high rise buildings have become popular in recent years as they
provide several advantages over reinforced concrete and steel columns. This is mainly due to
the fact that they can offer advantages over either pure steel or concrete members in terms of
high strength, high ductility and high stiffness. Additionally, the steel tubes surrounding the
concrete can act as framework, thus providing for rapid construction, saving labor and
construction cost. This final year project aims to study behavior of hollow steel stub-columns
in-filled with green concrete incorporating Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag
(GGBS).GGBS is used to partially replace Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) with different
replacement percentage. |
