Description
Summary:Circular Hollow Section (CHS) T-joints are more and more widely used in construction, especially offshore. More researches are conducted on this topic. The study on the collapse mechanism of CHS T-joint subjective to compressive load under ambient temperature using yield line model has not been touched, although many research have suggested some model for CHS X-joints. In this project, one collapse mechanism for CHS T-joint was proposed. Through optimization, the lower bound of the ultimate load that results in the collapse as proposed can be obtained. The ultimate loads at different brace over chord diameter ratios (β=d/D) were compared with the design formula from Eurocode and experimental data. The mechanism that obtained from optimization was compared with the one in Finite Element analysis. It can be found that this model gives reasonable values compared with the design values and experimental data. And the mechanism was consistent with Finite Element Model especially for small diameter ratios (β). However, this model didn’t make a good prediction for the hogging line. And this difference in hogging line result from the proposed model and a further refine in the mechanism model should be made.
