Summary:Despite the unprecedented efforts seen in countering Somali piracy in the waters off the Horn of Africa, piracy continues to be the major threat for vessels sailing through that region. This study hence aims to investigate the effectiveness of existing counter-piracy measures. Measures are categorized into international, regional and the industry efforts. Analysis of international and regional efforts will focus on main governmental and joint industry’s efforts such as the deployment of naval forces and international conventions. On the other hand, industry’s efforts will concentrate on Best Management Practices (BMP) and the hiring of private armed guards.
