Description
Summary:Rapid flowing fluid contains large amount of energy that may cause erosion and scouring on the downstream channel bed and eventually damaging hydraulic structures. As a result, energy dissipators have been commonly used to dissipate the excess energy. Installation of porous screens at the upstream of the channel bed to create a hydraulic jump has been practiced by engineers as a method for dissipating energy. This report is a compilation of four projects done by NTU students; Yang (2006), Quek and Soh (2008) and Zhu (2009) on the investigation of the hydraulic jump to dissipate energy using porous screens for small hydraulic structures. The study from Rajaratnam and Hurtig (2000) is also used for comparison.
