Project on investigation of tribological properties of epoxy filled with lubricant microcapsules

The usage of epoxy and epoxy related products is estimated to reach US% 21.35 billion by the year 2015. There is a need to continually improve these products to make them more cost efficient. [1] One such cost effective way is to reduce the loss of material due to general wear and tear through the use of lubricants. One method of including lubricants into the material is to incorporate the lubricants in the form of microcapsules and to mix them into the material itself. This project concerns with how an epoxy sample mixed with a particular microcapsule lubricant, made from Episol B2531, a type of synthetic paraffin oil, reacts faced tested under different tribological and material tests. Samples containing 0% to 7% content of microcapsule lubricant were used for this experiment.
