Description
Summary:This report covers the details of a final year project regarding dispersion engineering in photonic crystal fibers. It includes a literature review of optical fibers with focus on photonic crystal fiber, which has been a hot research topic in the past decade with promising potentials in various applications. Secondly, an experimental measurement of dispersion for a dispersion compensating fiber is presented. Modulation induced power fading method is employed in this experiment. Moreover, a numerical simulation is presented for the same fiber to study its dispersion property under variation of several structural parameters. In the end of the report, discoveries from experimental measurement as well as numerical simulation is summarized and advices are provided for further modification of design of the tested dispersion compensating fiber. Additionally, recommendation for further study is provided as well.
