Summary: | This project has presented an opportunity to design a solar powered refrigerator. Literature reviews were conducted to investigate if such an idea was feasible. The various types of cooling technologies were reviewed and investigated. Vapor-compression cooling as well as phase change cooling is selected to be incorporated with existing photovoltaic technologies. The design intension of the solar refrigerator is to be robust and for outdoor usage where conventional electricity is not readily available.
The available cooling technology was discussed and vapor-compression refrigeration and phase change material cooling was selected. The design criteria were listed out. The design of the solar refrigerator would be gauged against these criteria to see which design is best suited for the job and design requirements. Out of three designs, one was chosen after evaluation. Calculations were made to estimate the load, power and cooling capacity requirements. Designs were re-iterated with the calculations such that both would match. Main components were selected to be incorporated into the solar refrigerator.
SolidWorks was used to draft out the proposed final product as well as its technical drawings and specifications. Cost estimation analysis was done to visualize how much it would take to construct and reap from selling the prototype. Profits were estimated at 50% and the final selling cost was priced at 2265.25. Future advancement in technology and bulk procurement would push down cost price and make the refrigerator more profitable. |
