Singapore is a highly urbanized country with many high-rise buildings. Thus, by managing the energy used by buildings, the demand and consumption of energy can be greatly reduced, and this directly translates to savings in electricity bills. The proposed system performs peak shaving and load shifting so as to modify the energy usage pattern of a building. These are achieved by the following features implemented in the system: monitoring and computation of the various parameters that are of importance to energy management, load shedding according to the priority setting of individual loads and deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs). In addition, to allow users keep track of their energy management progress, the system calculates the monthly electricity expenses and stores them in a Microsoft Excel file. Estimation of future energy demand and consumption is also made so that users can decide on how they would adjust the loads to meet their specified targets.
