Description
Summary:Carbon Molecular Sieve Membranes (CMSM) produced from Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) polymer powder in N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent was investigated in this project. PVDF polymer was prepared onto graphite substrate and was studied as a flat, supported membrane. The carbonization parameters were varied and the effects of temperatures, dwell times and atmosphere on the performance of the final carbonized membrane were studied. Pure gas permeation tests were carried out on these carbonized membranes and the results were analysed. The molecular structure and the elemental composition of the carbon membrane were also examined with the use of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX).
