Description
Summary:Interest in the rheology and effects of interacting surfaces is as ancient as man. This subject can be represented by a recently coined word: tribology. Wear of total hip prosthesis is a significant clinical problem that involves, nowadays, a too high a number of patients. In order to acquire further knowledge on the tribological phenomena that involve hip prosthesis, wear tests are conducted on employed materials to extend lifetime of orthopaedic implants. The most basic type of test device is the material wear machine, nevertheless, a more advanced one may reproduce better and more accurate results. Typically, these apparatuses are called simulators, whereby they are able to mimic the movement and motion found in the humans’ hip joints. However, these simulators are usually big and bulky, expensive, and difficult to handle.
