This system tracks the human eye ball movement through a video camera by using a computer program written in C++ language with the utilization of CAMSHIFT algorithm and OpenCV library. This eye tracking system was primarily designed for improving the life of disabled people or locked-in patients. For instance, disabled people could use their eye movement to control their wheel chairs, and locked-in patients could use eye movement to communicate with others or to carry out certain functions according to their wishes. Currently, this eye tracking system is still under development, there is still huge space for improvement. The eye tracking system developed in this project is to track the eye ball movement and choose one of the nine target buttons displayed on a computer LCD screen. Through experiment and testing, an accuracy of 81.11% of choosing the correct target button was achieved. With advance in technology and further development in this field, we have confidence that this system could not only help the disabled people and locked-in patients, but also to be implemented to improve daily life of normal people in the future.
