The need to save power and maintaining a higher performance over these networks lead us into exploring a less costly and more efficient way of delivery. The advantages of the wireless mesh network, topologies and architecture will be discussed. Different networking protocols like the Optimized Link State Protocol and the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol shall be explained. Cooperative communications will be introduced to combine effort with the wireless mesh networks to realize the goals. The second part of this report focus on the settings in configuring a wireless mesh network using the Freifunk firmware with Linksys WRT54G routers. The basic functions and controls of the Skype WIFI IP Phone will be reviewed. The establishment of voice calls through the wireless interconnected routers, ways of testing of maximum distance and handing over of network will also be analyzed.
