Summary: | The Hybrid Solar Photovoltaic Thermal System using a Tracking Solar
Trough converts solar energy into both electrical and heat. It concentrates the
incoming solar radiance onto a solar module mounted with a cooling system with a
parabolic reflector dish.
This system had proven success in area with mainly clear blue sky but not in
Singapore’s cloudy condition. Hence the power generated from the hybrid solar
system is compared with conventional stationary mounted solar modules to verify
whether this system is feasible under local condition.
The tracking circuit receives inputs from its light sensors to determine the
Sun’s location throughout the day. The inputs are converted to digital signals and
used to trigger the motor driver circuit to follow the motion of the Sun to ensure the
trough is always facing it. An automatic parking system was installed to force the
trough to return to its initial position facing the east during evening when the sun had
set. |
