Singapore is situated at the equatorial sun belt that has approximate 12 hours of sunlight in a day. With this energy being wasted every day, it will be feasible to use the solar energy to great use by converting it into electricity. Solar energy can be use directly using photovoltaic module but electricity will be wasted if it is not use at that moment. With the use of electrical storage is use to store excess energy to a later use and can be use in the night time. The storage device can be in term of batteries or even super-capacitor that can store electricity for later use. New technologies for super-capacitor have improved to store more energy and have a faster rate of charging. Lithium ion batteries is another way to store electrical energy as it has a lower self discharge rate that can stored energy for even later use compared to super-capacitor. This project explores the feasibility of integrating the system into a standalone solar powered electrical system. In this project, a prototype system was developed, design and created. The design objectives are to be able to charge the super-capacitor and the lithium ion battery, the charge storage device which will be able to operate a DC loads. |
