Failures of composite pipes

The aim of this project is to investigate and analyse the deformation and strain experience by the pipe when subjected to bending. This involves fabrication of support, mounting of strain gauges and experimental. The research work of this project was carried out in three stages. The first stage i...

This involves fabrication of support, mounting of strain gauges and experimental. The research work of this project was carried out in three stages. The first stage involves literature review of existing works. A total of three journals were reviewed, namely, Effects of winding angle on the failure of filament wound pipe, Effects of resin flexibility on the properties of the filament wound tubes and Ultimate strength of a composite cylinder subjected to three-point bending: correlation of beam theory with experiment. The second stage of this project involves mounting of strain gauges onto the composite. The thickness and width of the support will affect the result of the experiment. Strain gauges will be installed on the pipe with extra care to prevent it from getting a wrong strain reading when the experiment is continuing. The third stage of this project involves conducting a four points bending experiment. An experiment was carried out. Load versus strain graph was plotted out to compare the strain each strain gauges in different angle and axis experiences. From the result, it concluded that the further the distance of the load from the support, the higher the strain a pipe will experience. The last stage of this research involves 2 methods of evaluating E the elastic of modulus using Direct Stress- Strain Method and ASTM Standard 4-point bending Method.
