Summary: | As cycling goes beyond as a mean of transport into the realm of sports, the need for performance measurement tools becomes prevalent. One of the most essential equipment for a cyclist to measure his own performance is the Power Meter. However, commercially available Power Meter often exceeds the affordable budget of a typical cyclist. Hence it is important to assess possible solutions for the creation of cheaper and more affordable Power Meters that can serve as alternatives over current Power Meters in the market.
The aim of the project is to conduct testing to an important component known as the Power Ring, of an on-going study of a Power Meter. A Test Rig will be designed using a CADD program and fabricated to conduct the testing of the Power Ring. Primary works will include research on the working principles of the driving system of a bicycle, selection of the suitable CADD software from a myriad of available products and the modeling of the driving systems so as to gain further insights to the dynamics of the driving systems as well as experience in the usage of the CADD software.
Having known the requirements of the testing procedures, 2 prototypes will be designed. The advantageous and disadvantageous of each will be assessed and compared. The best suited design will be selected to undergo fabrication. Testing of the Power Ring will then be performed with the usage of the fabricated Test Rig. |
