However, even with the rapid advance in technology, certain instrument such as oscilloscope is still not able to integrate readily with the internet world. Hence, the objective of this project is to study the techniques that can be used to integrate oscilloscope with the computer for the purpose of convenience and interactivity. The main scope of the project is to develop a web-based GUI oscilloscope system and based on HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS for user interaction purposes. It provides the basic control functions of a standalone oscilloscope such as the vertical and horizontal positioning as well as time and voltage scaling adjustments for manipulating the graphical display of the waveforms. It also consists of virtual ports and plugs to retrieve data from external XML files that are located on a data server side which simulate the streaming of data into the data from external signal source to the oscilloscope. This report presents the various aspects of the projects, including such review of various web technologies and web technology used in the project, the implementation of the system and the results obtained, difficulties encountered and the solutions adopted, the future work as well concluding remarks for the project. In addition, the web-based oscilloscope system developed can be used as in educational tool made available on the internet, to enhance the user’s understanding and get familiarize with the functions of the oscilloscope before using the actual equipment.
