This report begins by defining the existing problems faced by mobile broadband users and provides a review on the existing applications that can offer some form of remote control access via SMS with certain restrictions. Next, the proposed solution is stated which is to provide remote control access via SMS removing the identified restrictions and adding useful and unique functionalities to the end software product. This report then elaborates on several software engineering principles applied on this project to achieve a high quality remote control access software called SMS2USEPC. From the identified requirements to the creation of UML diagrams, the entities are illustrated and described in detail. Software estimation is also performed and explained to determine the duration and efforts taken to develop SMS2USEPC before moving into the implementation phase. In the implementation phase, the implementation details of each of SMS2USEPC major features and some of the encountered problems with resolutions are also elaborated. In the testing phase, several testing methodologies were used to uncover and rectify as many bugs as possible. The resulting software, SMS2USEPC allows users to have remote control access to their PC via SMS when they are on the move as well as a platform to provide them with a way to monitor and receive updates of any unauthorised usage of softwares and system ports or completed Internet Explorer (IE) downloads that can occur on their PC when they are not physically present in front of it. This report provides a detailed insight into the development of a remote control access software that is designed to securely allow users to remotely execute, monitor and access contents on their PC with the use of Short Message Service (SMS).
