Description
Summary:The effect of busyness on speed of work was investigated. A sample of 120 Nanyang Technological University students was recruited. Participants were primed using a scrambled sentence task with words related to busy (e.g. occupied), neutral (e.g. microwave) or idle (e.g. slack). Participants then typed a list of 30 contacts into an excel spreadsheet and amount of time taken to complete the task was recorded. Lastly, participants completed an anagram task as a filler task. Results showed that participants in the busy conditions were significantly faster than participants in the idle condition. However, there was no significant difference between neutral and busy and between neutral and idle condition. Implications to the findings and future researches were also discussed.
