Factors which affect private car ownership in Singapore are investigated in this study and a model for predicting demand for car ownership is developed. The model has good explanatory power with respect to variations in private car population levels between 1976 and 1989. However, car population is currently controlled by the Vehicle Quota System and the relationship developed can only be used now to provide estimates of the potential demand for car ownership.
