Cognitive Radio (CR) can be conceived as an advanced version of Software Defined Radio (SDR) with model-based reasoning. CR offers a mechanism for the flexible pooling of radio spectrum using a new class of protocols called formal radio etiquettes. In order to address key issues in CR design and deployment, this research presents a novel approach for modeling, packaging and recognition of radio etiquette. It entails novel high-level modeling designs, implementation approaches and communication algorithms to broaden the acceptance of CR as a viable enhancement to contemporary radio technology.
