For the past 30 years, high speed communication in the underwater acoustic channel has been challenging because of many factors such as: limited bandwidth, extended multi-path, refractive properties of the medium, severe fading, rapid time variation and large Doppler shifts. Some existing channel models are simplified but do not consider multipath fading. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising communication technique due to the low complexity of receivers required to deal with the highly dispersive underwater channels.
