Touch interfaces is becoming an active area of research for multimedia applications. Cou-pled with the increasing demands for ease of operations for newly developed complex software, new touch interfaces aims to address limitations offered by the current human computer interfaces (HCIs). In this work, we propose a new paradigm of touch inter-face that allows one to convert daily objects to a touch pad through the use of surface mounted sensors. To achieve a successful touch interface, localization of the finger tap is of paramount importance. It is well-known that the generalized cross-correlation (GCC) al-gorithm provides a good estimation of time-differences-of-arrival (TDOA) in homogenous media such as air. However, dispersion occurs in solid media where the velocity of wave propagation is function of frequency. This limits the performance of GCC in terms of the localization accuracy and its robustness to dispersion.
