Autonomous-built maps can be very useful for robotic navigation applications. A millimeterwave radar is chosen as the sensor to build the map. The reason is the ability of radio waves to penetrate certain kinds of objects which enrich the information in the built map. The received radar signals contain noise which may cause the incorrect interpretation of objects' presence of absence. As a consequence, a thresholding method (Constant False Alarm Rate) and probabilistic method are used in this thesis to address this issue.
