Acoustic feedback is one of the challenges in hearing instrument design where the amount of acoustic gain of the hearing instrument is limited before the onset of acoustic feedback. When acoustic feedback occurs, the hearing instrument is effectively inoperable. Adaptive feedback cancellation algorithms embodied in digital hearing instruments is the method often adopted by manufacturers to address the acoustic feedback problem.
