Modern communication systems, such as those for satellite links (GPS, vehicular, etc), for mobile communication, and for emerging applications, such as wireless local-area networks (WLANs), often require compact antenna at low cost. Furthermore, due to their lightness, microstrip patch antenna are well suited for airborne applications, such as synthetic aperture radars (SAR) systems and scatterometers. In addition to compactness, this type of antenna may be required to provide circular polarization as in satellite links. In some applications, operation at two or more discrete bands and an arbitrary separation of bands is desired, all these demands has thus created the motivation for multi-frequency band capable antenna research and developments. Furthermore, recent advances in broadband data communications technology, such as TV-Mobile and Wi-Fi applications, has stimulate development of various device or facilities for more and faster data transmission; this showed that requirement for broad-bandwidth antenna is a must for coming future.
