sg-ntu-dr.10356-468702023-07-04T16:57:59Z Sol-gel fabrication for applications in photonic communications Ho, Charles Kin Fai Kantisara Pita John Ngo Quoc Nam School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Optics, optoelectronics, photonics 342 p. In an attempt to exploit low-cost fabrication methods for photonics components, the capability of film formation by the sol-gel (the alkoxide route) and spin coating process was rigorously studied and evaluated in this work. Two specific applications of interests are dielectric waveguide devices and III-V quantum-well intermixing (QWI) of optoelectronic devices. The sol-gel—spin coating technique was employed to synthesize a glassy layer of Ge02:Si02 that is suitable as a core layer of an optical waveguide and as a porous layer of Ge02:Si02 for encapsulant-induced QWI of semiconductor laser structures.
