In a satellite, heat transfer is one of the most important phenomena to be considered. During day time the portion of a satellite which is exposed to the sun light have high temperatures as compared to the unexposed side of the satellite. The electronic equipments inside also produce heat. The sunlight reflected from earth also acts as the source of heat. With these sources of heat for a satellite, the resulting heat distribution is uneven over the structure of the satellite. Heat pipes are generally used to reduce the heat in the hotter area and transfer it to spread over the entire satellite structure for effective heat management and thermal control.
