For over a quarter of a century, many human lives have been saved by stents. The significance of stents has triggered researchers to constantly review and improve its clinical performance. Although the emergence of a wide variety of stents (polymeric, metallic, bare-metal, drugeluting, etc.) may tailor to different patient conditions, it also causes confusion as to which type of stent to use. The pros and cons of each stent (for example the strenghth of degradable polymeric stents will reduce with time, etc.) , seriousness of the patients' condition, cost, prestenting and post-stenting complications, etc, are some of the considerations that clinicians have to assess before deciding the type of stent to use.
