Breast cancer is the most frequently occurring malignancy in women, and the mortality rate is high compared to other cancers. For better survival odds and lesser use of treatments and therapies and, therefore, lesser side-effects, many imaging systems are continually being developed to diagnose this disease as early as possible. In this thesis, a comprehensive literature review of the various breast imaging systems, which are currently being used clinically or studied experimentally, is given. A perspective review of the electrical characteristics of normal and cancerous breast tissue, followed by a description of the various modalities that use these characteristics for breast cancer detection is presented.
