This study reports on the development and implementation of In-Mold Decoration (IMD) of a plastics components manufacturer. The IMD process is an integrated one, requiring design and process know-how in printing, forming, trimming and injection molding to manufacture a successful component. This study looks at how this company implements the IMD technology in their new product and the problems faced during the whole process. The concepts and principles of typical IMD processes were related and applied to the actual design and implementation of the product development.
