This dissertation models the reverse logistics distribution network for a single period, single end-of-use product for the electronics industry in the Asia-Pacific region. The objectives are to determine the optimal number, location and capacities of reverse logistics facility sites under different scenarios that minimize the total cost of processing, transportation, facility investment, penalty and subsidies. These alternative scenarios included (1) the basic model under the predetermined conditions, (2) the model with service considerations, (3) the model of government deregulation and (4) the model with increased demand. By formulating a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) mathematical model, the optimal solutions were obtained using the Advanced Optimization Modeling Software (AIMMS) for the alternative scenarios, with the first scenario serving as the contrast case.
