The continuously developing of hard disk drive (HDD) industry pushes the magnetic recording technology growth very fast over past 2 decades. The areal density of HDD is going to be bigger and bigger. The bigger areal density requires a smaller flying height (FH). The researchers are targeting to achieve the areal density of 1000 Gb/in2, and one of the major technology challenge is to lower down the FH to 5 nm.
