Yeo Swee Hock School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Mechanical engineering 73 p. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) has been widely used for removal process for the production of parts and dies. Over several decades, surface modification and accretion by Electrical Discharge Machining has been studied. The advantage of depositing material by EDM over other techniques, such as physical and chemical vapour deposition, is the ability to perform deposition during actual machining operation. This type of combined mode of machining and depositing material is commonly known as Electrical Discharge Alloying (EDA). Electrical Discharge Alloying provides specific material properties to the machined or unmachined surface based on the alloying material.
