Contact between mainland China and the Middle-East countries were first initiated through the establishment of diplomatic ties in the mid-eighties which led to the establishment of Chinese government owned enterprise representative offices in the Middle-East. This set the stage for the rapid growth of trade between the two regions. Today Chinese from the Chinese provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian constitute the largest groups of Chinese businesses in Dubai. Other businesses group hail from Shanghai, North-East China and the ShanDong province. The mode of business operations, size of operations as well type of trade differs among these business groups.
