Rajaratnam School of International Studies DRNTU::Social sciences::Sociology::Terrorism 61 p. This thesis examines the phenomena behind the growing number of radical publications and its impacts on the radical and terrorist groups (e.g. Jemaah Islamiyah) in Indonesia. The arguments presented are largely based on field researches conducted from 2008 to 2009. This paper concludes that the direct strategy that was implemented in the Indonesian Counter Terrorism has failed to deal with the radical publications and its ideological justification for violent act. The failure has caused the radical publications to occupy greater space in the public sphere. This to some extend resulted in moderate groups (e.g. Muhammadiyah and Nadlatul Ulama) experiencing a decrease in support from their members and consequently, reducing their ability to maintain their moderate views dominant among the general public.
