sg-ntu-dr.10356-474822023-03-04T00:41:17Z Development of AAC-codec for streaming in wireless mobile applications Evelyn, Kurniawati Benjamin Premkumar Lau Chiew Tong School of Computer Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Computer science and engineering::Data::Coding and information theory 157 p. Audio compression has reached a high level of maturity. Using Principles of Psychoacoustics, transparent quality at over fifteen times compression is possible today. The state-of-the-art in audio compression, at present, is Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) While the AAC standard is definite enough to ensure that a valid AAC stream is correctly decodable by all AAC decoders, it is flexible enough to accommodate variations in implementation, suited to different resources available and application areas. One application that is on the rise in the last decade due to the rapid growth of wireless networks is mobile audio streaming, which requires the audio codec to run on low power personal handheld devices. Our analyses exploit the freedom of the encoder implementation without violating the AAC decoding standard, and suggest a new efficient method to encode the AAC stream without compromising the audio quality and the compression ratio.
