This study will analyse details of every aspect of inventory management based on the literature research and actual experience from Changi Airport Terminal 3's new Transfer Baggage System (TBS). We shall discuss the concepts on inventory management and how it can be applied the Transfer Baggage System. The stock characteristics of all the TBS stock units will be analysed to help provide a guide of what stocks to to be purchased in greater or lesser quantities. We need to be able to determine an acceptable quantity of stock units to purchase and when is the time to re-order the stock items to prevent stock-out situations. Storage space is another important aspect of inventory management. We need to have a good method of storing the stock items in the store and be able to the locate items easily. With a better understanding of the stock units, the fast moving items are replenished more frequent than slow moving items to minimise the inventory costs of keeping the stock items on hand. The Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) justifies the quantity of stock units to purchase while and Reorder Point (ROP) enables good planning for inventory purchases. The ROP for every stock item is tracked and when the inventory level drops to below this quantity, a purchase for the required stock units is carried out. The inventories of the TBS are well organised with a good locator address system and proper control of stock movements in the store. Thus, recommendations for future works are also proposed in order to improve the inventory control and placement of SKUs and continue to achieve successful inventory management for the TBS.
