Description
Summary:This paper aims to study the applicability of various concepts in institutional theory to the context of multi-national corporations. In particular, we adopted a case study approach to examine provocations developed by Kostova, Roth & Dacin (2008) in relation to the cross-border mergers and acquisitions of Wal-Mart, a United States based company, in Mexico and Brazil. We drew references from past research conducted on the study of Wal-Mart in other countries such as Germany, Japan, and South Korea and identified possible reasons to explain the deviations from the theoretical framework. Based on our conclusions, we also provided several managerial implications practitioners can consider in relation to the practice of corporate mergers & acquisitions.
