自1978年改革开放后，中国经历了经济与军事力量的增长，其国家综合力量的迅速提升被称为“中国的崛起”。同时，中国的崛起在学术界，政界与媒体等各个领域也引发所谓的“中国威胁论”与“和平崛起论”两种不同的论述。长期以来，这两种论述都是在分析中国的硬实力，两派的理论看似不同但其理论依据却是相同的。因此，中国崛起是威胁或机遇不在于客观的事实，而是出于人们选择性的叙述。即中国客观存在的经济，军事，政治等因素与其成为威胁或机遇没有必然和绝对的因果关系，但人们的叙述赋予了它这样的因果关系,导致了包装中国的行为。因此，中国崛起的辩论不是出于一种客观的事实，而是出于修辞的必然结果。本文将通过运用修辞学的理论，分析并解释针对中国的崛起为什么会出现两种不同的理论。1978 marks the beginning of China’s reform, and also China’s rise in the international world order. The spectacular rise of China, especially its economic and military might sparked off the “China threat” and “peaceful rise” theories, leading to decades of ongoing debates and discussions on weather China’s rise is a threat or opportunity to the region and the world. These theories are different in every aspect except their basis of argument; both of them have the same theoretical foundation. Thus questions arise. Why did the same theoretical foundations give rise to two different theories? How has the rise of China, especially its hard power been described and presented to the world in the words of two different schools of thought? What role does rhetoric play behind the construction of the “China threat” and “peaceful rise” theories? This paper analyzes how the use of rhetoric gave rise to two different images associated with the rise of China, namely “threat” and “opportunity/peaceful”.
