Using a symbolic interactionist perspective, this paper aim to study how tour guides in Singapore view their conception of self and how they make use of the conception of self and others to place them in a more advantage position to interact with the tourists. It shows how tour guides engage in strategies of impression management, emotional labour and by changing their tour guiding style according to nationalities of the tourists to elicit the desired (memorable and worthwhile) experience which tourists seek when they go on a guided tour so as to gain more tips from tourists at the end of the guided tours.
