Summary: | In recent day, population of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) type camera increases significantly and becomes very popular device for either amateur or professional photographer. The camera is usually easy to be used and mostly gives satisfactory results if a proper setting is provided. Unfortunately the system is still utilized relatively small LCD screen to pre evaluation of the result.
In other hand, a technology which is called Android provides application to allow a DSLR camera to communicate with a computer to ease user to set camera main parameters such as shutter speed, aperture, etc remotely. A software interface, Gphoto2 becomes a choice to make both systems to communicate.
Although the basic design of DSLR cameras is the same, in some cases, between one branded cameras and others will not always have same capability or either setting. In this project, it is found that between Nikon and Canon cameras, the autofocus arrangement or setting is different. That makes the application of Android in either camera requires adjustment to make it works in both systems.
This project describes the application capability to remotely control a DSLR camera using available Gphoto2 software, especially for Nikon camera. The application manipulates the camera shutter speed, aperture and ISO sensitivity remotely to get better exposures. An autofocus at Nikon camera uses phase detection mode. Meanwhile Canon camera uses contrast focusing when used in live view mode. |
