Description
Summary:Mobile phone technology has improved dramatically over the last 5 years. Mobile phones have been shifted from being a plain voice communication device, to a sophisticated multi-functional device. With the Global Position Systems (GPS) available for positioning application, it provides users with convenience of locating during time of needs. However, in indoor setting, GPS does not penetrate well and thus users are not able to locate themselves properly. With the well-spread of Wi-Fi networks around us, we will be able to make use of the wireless signals for relative positioning based on the signal strength and distinct MAC address of every individual Wi-Fi access points. Also, with the availability of sophisticated sensors on mobile devices, we will be able to utilize these sensors to make indoor localization possible. We will look into how utilizing the surrounding Wi-Fi network and also sensors on the mobile device is capable of providing localization to users in environment where the GPS is unavailable on the Android mobile device.
