This paper will focus on Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe (1719), Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels (1726) and Laurence Sterne’s A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy (1768). These three texts were best-sellers during the eighteenth century and each text employs a different treatment of the theme of travel.
