Description
Summary:As technology advances, computer is becoming more adept in assisting language learning especially in the pronunciation department. The best way to pick up a new language is to listen to native speaker as often as possible and to practice speaking it. With the help of today’s technology, this method can be incorporated into a Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) software and allow students to practice anywhere and everywhere whenever they are free to do so. Even though there already exists much software that is able to do that, very little of them are localized to Singapore special accent due to her multi-lingual environment. Hence, the objective of this project is to develop a demo software, with a scoring engine that is customized to Singapore accent and a user friendly interface. This report will focus on the implementation of the scoring engine and the Graphical User Interface (GUI) respectively as well as the evaluation of the software. The scoring engine will be scoring on the pronunciation, timing, pitch and loudness on syllable as well as word level while the GUI will be focusing on the different functionality of the application and the overall user-friendliness.
