Description
Summary:Data are highly compressed to achieve very low bit rate in communication. Lossy image compression is used in the image and video coding to achieve high compression rate. Block based Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) technique is used in JPEG, MPEG compression. To achieve very low bit rate images are coarsely quantized in DCT domain. When reconstructing this image, unwanted discontinuity at the block boundary, so-called blocking artifacts are very visible. Many deblocking techniques have been developed to reduce this artifact. The main requirement in image/video processing is that deblocking method must fit into the real time application with acceptable image/video quality. This project aims to study the causes and effects of deblocking artifacts and develops deblocking method.
