Hans-Martin Rall School of Art, Design and Media DRNTU::Visual arts and music Driven by the increasing popularity of the 3D platform, from the advertisements, short movies to full feature animated films, the urge to produce a film-piece, which later called Erdene sparked. There are thousands and thousands of 3D advertisement, short movies and animation full film around us nowadays. However, only a little of thousands lasted in the memory of the audience. Erdene is the project that tries to answer the challenge to give impact to the audiences with the stunning story, ending and the style of the movie. Erdene tries to explore the way to manipulate the audience emotion and to present them with unexpected outcome of the movie unlike the common animation film, which has happy ending in the end. Erdene is a 3D-Animated short movie that is full with action sequence and plays with the emotion of the audience. The project goes with the plot of a gigantic bird monster chased over an 11-years old girl. Little did the audience know any reason of the bird chasing over the girl during the start of the movie. The other challenge in this project revolves around the flying bird and the emotion that must be carried out convincingly to enable this project to be deemed successful. Thus references and information are gathered and studied to ensure that the movie is properly produced in effective ways. This report will bring you through the insights and findings of this final year project and my roles and task in this project as well as the problem and solution in each stages of this final year project. The report will be seperated to three stages of progress, the pre-production stage such as: story development, concept art and storyboarding, and animatic, the production stage such as: modelling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting and rendering and the final stage, post-production stage of compositing. With the familiarity of the 3D platform, the entire movie is mainly done with Autodesk Maya as the 3D platform and supported with the combination of few other software such as Adobe Photoshop, Nuke, Adobe Premiere Pro and Pro Tools. In some part of the report, some of terms related to the software will be used. Thus the familiarity to the terms is useful to the understanding of this report. 2 This report shows that with the good research and studies of the challenge, Erdene are able to answer the challenges set by the team through the fast pace cutting, roles reversal, good studies of the bird and the unique style for the film.
