A variety of techniques have been implemented in order to integrate carbon nanotubes (CNT) into fiber/waveguide devices. However, one of their drawbacks is the handling method. Recently, a novel technique was demonstrated for optically-driven deposition of carbon nanotubes on fibers using optical tweezer effect on nano particles. This project focuses on the investigation of optically-driven deposition of carbon-based nano particles on various optical waveguides/fibers. The studies will include building up models of optical tweezer effect on different particles and waveguides. A fiber laser incorporating CNT as saturable absorbers (SA) is mode locked to generate ultra-short pulse. The project will partially involve the fabrication of CNT-based devices with such technique and their optical measurements for communications applications.
